How we choose and describe cabins
We want you to trust what you read here, so this page explains exactly where our information comes from.
Where the cabins come from
Most cabins on this site come from the booking companies we work with, currently Hoseasons, Cottages.com, Sykes Holiday Cottages, Rural Retreats and its Hideaways brands, through the Awin affiliate network. Their listings are updated on our site every night. Some cabins are listed directly by their owners, and are marked “Direct from the owner”.
We only include log cabins, lodges, chalets and treehouses. Cottages, barns, flats and caravans are filtered out automatically by name and type, and anything that slips through is removed when we spot it.
How descriptions are written
The booking companies give us facts but not descriptions: location, how many it sleeps, prices for sample dates, guest ratings and whether there is a hot tub, a pool, dogs allowed or the coast nearby. Our descriptions are written automatically from those facts, combined with our own information about the area: distances to nearby towns and landmarks, things to do and local food. They are updated whenever the facts change.
Where we have written about a cabin ourselves, or the owner has written about it, that text appears first.
Prices
Prices are sample prices from the booking company’s data, usually for a 7-night stay on a given date, and show the date we last checked. The price you pay depends on your dates; the booking company shows the full price, including any fees, before you pay.
Ratings
Guest ratings are the booking company’s own scores. We never write or edit reviews.
Order of results
“Recommended” order favours cabins with hot tubs, dog-friendly options, good photos and strong ratings. Three things we are paid for also move cabins up, and we want you to know about them:
- Sponsored cabins: owners pay for a Featured upgrade and are shown first.
- Ad · Direct from owner cabins: owners pay a subscription to list, and are shown higher up.
- Cabins that guests have recently booked through our links rank a little higher. We earn a commission on those bookings.
Commission rates themselves never affect the order, and you can always sort by price or size instead.
