Log cabins with hot tubs: what to check before you book

Private or shared, wood-fired or electric, filled fresh or kept topped up – a quick guide to getting the hot tub you are picturing.

Steam curling up into cold, still air. The trees dark around you, a few stars coming out and nothing to do until morning. For most people that is the whole point of a cabin break – and the hot tub is the part they look forward to most.

Not every hot tub is the same, though. Here is what to check so the one you get matches the one you are picturing.

Private or shared?

A private hot tub belongs to your cabin, usually on its own deck. A shared one serves several lodges or sits in a spa area on the park. Many cabins have their own tub, but our partners’ data does not always say which, so check the listing – and at lodge parks, check the lodge type you book.

At lodge parks, check the lodge

Lodge parks often have several types of lodge, and only some come with a hot tub. When a park is marked as having hot tubs on Log Cabin Holidays, it means hot tub lodges are available there. When you click through, choose a lodge type that lists a hot tub.

Wood-fired or electric?

Most cabin hot tubs are electric and stay hot all week. Wood-fired tubs are more romantic – and more work. They can take a few hours to heat, so light them in the afternoon if you want a soak after dinner.

Will it be clean?

Good operators drain and refill tubs between guests, or treat them carefully if they stay filled. If this matters to you, look for a note about cleaning in the listing or ask the provider before booking.

Rules worth knowing

  • Many cabins ask you not to use the hot tub late at night, out of respect for neighbours.
  • Glass is usually banned around the tub – pack some plastic glasses.
  • Children may have minimum ages or need supervising at all times.
  • Dogs are never allowed in, however keen they are.

The best time of year for a hot tub

Autumn and winter. There is nothing like sitting in hot water while your breath clouds in the cold air, and quieter months often mean lower prices too.

Browse every log cabin with a hot tub, or pick a county to narrow it down.
