Where to stay in North Wales with your dog, what to check before you book, and dog-friendly cabins in Eryri, Anglesey and beyond
North Wales might be the best place in the UK to take a dog on a cabin break. Mountains, forests, long sandy beaches and a coastal path that goes on for miles, all within an easy drive of each other. Here is where to stay, what to check before you book, and some of the dog-friendly cabins we list in each area.
We climbed Snowdonia a number years ago while staying nearby in Criccieth. It was such a beautiful day from the moment we set off. Clear blue skys, perfect temperature and breathtaking views. However, as soon as we got to the top of the peak, the clouds rolled in very quickly and we couldn’t see for more than a few feet in front of us. It lasted for around thirty minutes, but when it dispersed it was beautiful again and a lovely walk back down from the summit was able to be enjoyed by everyone. It just goes to show it’s always important to be prepared for a change in weather when hiking up some of the highest peaks in the UK.
Before you book: what to check
- How many dogs, and how big. Most cabins allow one or two dogs. Some have size limits or ask you to let them know in advance.
- The dog fee. Many charge a small fee per dog for the stay. It is shown when you book.
- An enclosed garden or decking. Handy if your dog likes to wander. Not every cabin has one, so check the photos and description.
- Furniture and bedrooms. Some owners ask that dogs stay off the sofas and out of the bedrooms. Bring a blanket and their own bed to make them feel at home.
- A hot tub and a dog. If you are booking a hot tub cabin, check the area round the tub is safe for an inquisitive dog.

Dogs on the beach
Many North Wales beaches welcome dogs all year, but some popular ones have seasonal restrictions, usually through the summer months. Look out for signs at the beach entrance, or check the local council website before you go. Out of season, most beaches are yours to enjoy.
What to pack for your dog
- Their bed or a blanket, so the cabin feels familiar.
- Old towels for muddy paws and wet coats after the beach.
- A long lead for open hills where there might be sheep.
- Water and a travel bowl for long walks.
- Poo bags, and a torch for dark evening walks in winter.
